A Retablo is a painting; a votive offering to a Divinity or Saint - often The Lady of Guadalupe.
Early examples of these Mexican devotional artworks date back to the 14th Century.
Handpainted on salvaged tin and metal plates, they include texts and symbols that portray a miraculous happening, a healing, rescue or often depiction of a dangerous incident which the offerer has survived.
